Early Morning Yoga

Posted in Yoga Inspiration

As I wake up this morning, I notice the house is quiet, and even the sun is a few minutes away from rising. There is a tranquil stillness that my soul finds so peaceful. It is in these moments that I wake with a fresh clear mind. Therefore, it is a blank slate just waiting for me to paint the picture of my day on it. It’s my favorite way to start my day. It’s time for some early morning yoga.

I grab my yoga mat and place it in front of the sliding glass doors and open the curtains. As I look out through the woods across to the Lake, I stretch upwards and begin Sun Salutation with a deep breath in.

Sun Salutation

The sun says “good morning” as it peeks over the horizon painting the sky with these beautiful shades of orange. The flag is blowing and the leaves are rustling with the crisp fall breeze. I take a moment in Mountain Pose and inhale slowly. Continuing, I hold the breath, then slowly release it feeling the cleansing of the lungs as I Fold Forward.

Next, moving into left leg High Lunge, I inhale opening my chest as I push it forward. Above all, I want to feel my heart receive the blood as I exhale. Reaching forward into Plank Pose, I hold and let my arms feel the weight of my body, strong and steady. Continuing, I move into Downward Facing Dog. Not forgetting to breathe with each movement, I drop to Cobra Pose encouraging the stretch as I again open my heart wide as I stretch my spine. Then, it’s back to Downward Facing Dog moving into right leg High Lunge.

My body is waking up, my muscles are saying “thank you”. Returning to Forward Fold, I elongate my spine giving each vertebra it’s own space. After that, reaching for the sky in Upward Salute, I thank the sun for such a beautiful beginning to this day full of possibilities.

In Closing

Mother Nature is greeting me, assuring me today is going to be a wonderful day. I am refreshed, my body is awake, my soul is at peace. As I end, I return to seated meditation pose, l lay my hands palm up on my knees and breathe…breathe in the quiet , breathe in the calm, breathe in the purity of this moment and the silence in my head. I am blessed for I was given the chance to rejuvenate my soul this morning and now I am ready to handle anything this Rich Hippie Yoga Life has in store for me today.
